Black Forest Shires

BF Josie Girl
1998 Imported Gypsy Horse mare

Josie is a nifty gal!  She's a nice big gal, about 15+ hands tall, and is a really nice choice for producing Drum Horse foals (which is why we imported her!).  She has a great body, and is just a beautiful mare.   She has nice feather and bone, and a great mane.  Her mane and tail were thoroughly mangled when we got her, but they are growing back thick and beautiful.  She will have a long, silky white mane, and a tail that drags the ground when it grows back.
Josie foaled a colt foal in May, 2002, who's sire is Charlie, a nice, heavy, traditional gypsy horse stallion in England.  Charlie's sire is the immortal horse called "The Road Sweeper" who is well known and admired by gypsy horse breeders.  This colt, being a grandson of the Road Sweeper, has much-desired gypsy horse blood!

We will be breeding Josie to our shire stallion Ideal, to produce a drum horse foal for 2003.  Josie carries several characteristics of being homozygous, so may well be homozygous.  If she is, she will produce a pinto colored foal every time bred, no matter what the sire of the foal is.  This is a HUGE bonus when considering breeding drum horse babies!

Josie is for sale with her nice colt for $17,000 if bred back to our shire stallion, $16,000 if you want her open to breed to the stallion of your choice.  Colt available for sale at weaning time (if not sold with Josie before then) for $7000.  Josie alone after weaning $13,000.

Josie's foal is a nice, big, healthy, nicely marked foal born on May 26, 2002.  His name is Wesbury, and he's very well built.  He's SO sweet, just adores people.  He is a joy to be around!

Delivery of Josie and her colt to states east of Colorado might be available in early July, 2002.  Jeff will be driving from Colorado to NY on his trip to pick up recently imported horses at that time.

Josie on May 6, 2002.  VERY pregnant, one week before her due date

Josie and her new colt "Westbury", AKA Wes.  His name comes from the Westbury White horse, which is a white chalk horse carved in the mountainside near Westbury, England.  Jeff and I drove past this chalk horse on our last trip over, and then when we got home, noticed that Josie's colt had the outline of a white horse on his right side as well!  Photos when the colt is about 1 week old.

Wes' side with the white horse picture on it.  The horse's neck and head go up Wes' neck, and it's front legs go down his front leg.  Wes has a blue eye on the right side.  It's really cute.  As for the markings on this boy, we couldn't have drawn them on better, he's perfect!

On this side, Wes has North America.  Mexico and South America go down his front leg, and Florida is on his middle.  There are even the great lakes up on the top of his back :)  I am afraid Alaska has been transformed a bit, and is now shaped like Italy with Sicily in front.

Josie and Wes.  Notice the "ink spots" in the white on Josie's side.  This is a good indicator of homozygitity.

Josie and Wes on June 21, 2002.  Wes is 3 1/2 weeks old in these pictures.  He's filling out great, and getting a really nice body on him!

Charlie, sire of Westbury.  He's such a sweet and good looking boy!
He's a good stout horse, just full of Gypsy Horse type, with TONS of feather and bone.  For more info on Charlie, click on Charlie's page
