Black Forest Shires

FUN PHOTOS
From our gypsy horse adventures

BFS&GH has over 100,000 pictures of gypsy horses, the largest collection of it's kind in the world!  These are a few of the fun pictures that we have taken over the years.  Every picture on this page and in our library was taken by Chris or Jeff!

Jeff makes a delivery of horses.  This is the kind of door-to-door service we can provide (Chris was on the England end shipping them off!).  That's one of the Black-Forest-Shires-Mobile's on the left side behind.  It's an Exiss aluminum 6 horse trailer with living quarters and Dodge Diesel truck (people always ask!).  Photo was taken in Vermont, at our friend's "Gypsy Grace Ranch" place.  Don't miss their web site at www.gypsygraceranch.com

Our friend John, who came with us on our June trip to England, and Jim traveling on the road to the horse fair in June, 2002.  This is the traditional way to go. Those horses are Babydoll and Grey Gal from the sales/sold page.  They are really neat mares!

The view from inside the gypsy wagon, on the road to the horse fair.  One horse does the pulling, and the second horse can have a collar put on to help pull the hills if needed. The horses are Babydoll and Grey Gal again, with Grey Gal doing the work this time.  Jeff took this picture, while he was traveling the long road with the group.

Somewhere in the Pennsylvania...  These are a few of the horses that came over on the July 7, 2002 flight, on their way to the second quarantine in KY.  That's BB, Darla, Ruby, and Candy with their faces out.  Baker (Candy's foal), and Olivia are also in there, but they didn't have their heads stuck out at the moment.  They were all enjoying Buns donated to them by the nice folks at the McDonald's.  Gypsy horses make friends wherever they go!

This picture is from a limited edition print called "In Black Forest", done by John S. Hockensmith, the official photographer for the Kentucky Derby and other major equine events.  John did a photo shoot at our farm in 2001, and several of the pictures are now limited edition prints.  See his work at www.bluegrassheritage.com (this site hasn't been updated in a while, but hopefully soon some of the prints of our horses will be available on there.  Until then, several of them are available on the KY Horse Park's web site, and even more are available if you order their free catalog).  The horses in the picture are 2 yearling fillies we imported in 2000, named Lily and Belle.  There is another print of them available, as well as many limited edition prints of our shire horses in his collection as well.

June, 2003.  That's Jeff inside the waggon, driving the "sideliner".  The sideliner is just a trotter horse, but in the shafts is a traditional gypsy cob stallion.
Jeff drove about 20 miles of the trip to the horse fair with our friend pictured walking alongside the waggon.  It's traditional that the main driver walks most of the way on the road, and only rides on the waggon when there is a hill to trot up.

Babies on a plane.  Four yearlings, Buckley, Marco, Champagne, and Princess are ready for their big plane ride.  Photo is from coming up the ramp of the plane.  The main body of the plane is to the right.

Happiness is a field full of gypsy horses.  These are a few of ours in England.  It's hard to tell where one starts and the other ends when they are laying together!
